The Climb
A Football Manager story about Kat Roberts, fourteen women's leagues, and a journey that didn't quite reach the summit.
The Climb stopped before the summit.
The original plan was to take Kat Roberts through fourteen women's leagues on the way to the WSL. She made it through Wales, reached Sweden, and that's where the save ended.
The Story
The Climb was a Football Manager save following Kat Roberts as she attempted to work her way through fourteen women's football leagues around the world.
The idea was simple: complete one stage, move on, and keep climbing until she eventually reached the WSL.
Kat completed her first phase with Barry Town United in Wales before moving to Sweden and joining IFK Göteborg.
And then... I stopped playing the save.
The save never reached the summit.
But the part that happened is still here.
Why It Stopped
The Climb didn't end because Kat reached the summit.
I stopped playing because, somewhere along the way, the save became more work than fun. Keeping a long-running story going meant constantly thinking about the next chapter, recording what happened, keeping everything consistent, and turning every part of the save into something worth writing about.
Eventually, I found myself maintaining the story rather than playing the game.
So I stopped.
Kat had made it from Wales to Sweden. The WSL was still a long way away, but I didn't want to keep a save alive simply because I'd planned for it to reach the end.
The Climb didn't fail. I just stopped climbing.
